Millers River Update - Thursday, May 21

Early last evening found me on the Millers for a great two hours. I first hit the stretch in Erving center just below the lower C&R boundry. Four rainbows came to the net courtesy of an olive soft hackle. All were caught about a 100 yards downstream from the bridge. I then went upstream to the Kempfield Run. The river was running about 500cfs which is easily wadable but just a bit high perfect dry fly action. About 7pm a nice hatch of sulphurs began to appear in the upper part of the run where the riffles smooth out to that beautiful glide. A few browns responded and I caught two with a sulphur comparadun. I would of stayed later but I had a very early start to today's work.
Tonight I tie some flies and tomorrow I'll make an early trip to the EB of the Westfield, a river that has baffled me and a number of others this Spring.
The Millers season has really started. Good flows, lots of caddis and mayflies and plenty of trout.
GO FISHING!!!!!!

Good to see that the flows are down on this river. Hope to fish it this weekend.

Great morning on the Millers with eight trout and three smallies caught. Picked up one very nice brown about nineteen inches, I'd guess. It had a small silver tag on dorsal fin. I had it in hand but it broke off before I could read it. Anyone know about these tags.

Sounds like a great morning!!! I think that the tagged browns are some fish that Rodney Flagg of Flagg's Flies sponsors.

Thanks for the info about the tag MRF. We'll see how the river treats me tomorrow.

Good luck tomorrow Pete. I mentioned in this post the Erving center stretch of the river. This is a great spot and I NEVER see anyone fishing it. It stays shaded for most of the afternoon due to the trees and the hill on the south bank. The river was pretty swift just below the bridge due to the narrow chute that it flows through so I fished and had all my luck a 100 yards below the bridge. When the river drops into the 300cfs range the area just below the bridge comes alive. Use the links on this site to check the flows for the Millers.

Thanks Ken. I'll give it a go.

Ken, any word on the Swift? Lower Forty says it is fishable at 300CFs but I doubt that. Any idea about when/if they will go back to releasing water from the bubbler?
Tight lines!

Ken, thanks for the tip on the Erving Center stretch you described. Landed eight trout and a dozen spunky smallies. More importantly had a great time on some very nice water--a great morning of fishing.

Gerry, Fished the Y Pool last Sunday at 425cfs. It was the only spot that was fishable. I stopped fishing the lower Swift last December when it went over 300cfs. That is the upper limit for me. I got teased by the river when it dropped to 275cfs on Friday but it's back up past 300 again. There is no word when the bubbler will be fixed.

I might try it Sunday morning.

Yeah Pete, where there any browns caught by you this morning in that Erving stretch??

A few, more bows than browns through.
