If A Tree Falls Into The Kempfield Pool.......

Word had it that a giant pine blew down into the Kempfield a week or so ago. My first thoughts were that it had hopefully fallen into the quite water below the mouth of Whetestone Brook and NOT ABOVE IT. That would ruin the best spot on this stretch. Thankfully it landed below the mouth of the brook across from the large boulders marking the beginning of the slow water. In fact, it probably IMPROVED the flow by channeling floating (flies) material away from the south bank and closer to the north bank where the approach is ALWAYS best.

The browns are in at the bears den and folks are catching them. The lower section gets their browns on the 14th but we have been catching holdover browns and stocked rainbows regardless.

Hit the river. It's prime time for the Millers!!!

I don't think that tree is going anywhere soon; unless a major rain - river blowout occurs. I don't think the beavers like pine, so they shouldn't touch it.

Had a great day in the Bears Den area on Monday... Browns were plentiful and fiesty! However, didn't encounter any bruisers! Avergae fish caught was about 14-15''...Had a few touch the 16-17'' mark.

Heading back up tommorrow hopefully!

Any dry fly action? Or do they still have a hankering for pellets? ;-)

Gerry,

Saw you explosive rises, however thats it. They wouldn't TOUCH a nymph...their diet consisted of swinging streamers and stripp'n them like MAD!

Gerry,

We had great dry fly action for holdover browns two weeks ago on the Millers.

Right! The recent hatchery transplants need to learn that those things jumping around on the surface are good to eat!

Not really....I fished on the afternoon of the 7th, the day the browns (supposedly) went into the Bears den. There were quite a few fish rising at Rezendes and taking dries.

Good day in the Holtshire area. Landed seven (3 browns and 4 rainbows) Missed or lost at least as many. Stone fly nymphs drifed with with no weight or indicater did the trick today

Pete,

That is good news!! The two that I guided last Thursday took about a dozen browns between them. The millers is hot right now!!!!
