Open Guide Dates And Reporting For The Study

A short note: I have open guiding dates (full days) for the Millers, EB of the Westfield or the Swift on the following dates - May 29, June 4 and JUNE 12. It's first come, first served. Just email me at millercaddis@yahoo.com to reserve a spot.

My full day trips end by mid June on the Millers and we switch into a late afternoon/evening mode for that river. The EB can work a bit later in the season if water conditions permit although it offers GREAT evening fishing during the Summer. One can fish the Swift ANY TIME of day all season long.

The fly fishing/non fly fishing study - please report your observations to my email address which is millercaddis@yahoo.com. It's just so much easier for me to keep track of.

Thanks,

Ken

Well,

The main rivers were spared stocking this week again...
Most of them are already cleaned out as well..The states stocking efforts this year are down right PITIFUL...

But, maybe we can look at it on the bright side...With the lack of stocking for a few weeks, perhaps this will retire the meat hunters for the season? This way, once they stock for the remainder stocking season, we will have fish to catch....
Nah, not gonna happen..THose bastrds are blood thirsty...

The poor Quinnie and EB of the Swift, Assabet, TB, all all our favortites are almost CLEANED of fish...PITIFUL...double digit days were common last year on these impoundments...not the case this year....

Well hopefully they got to the stocking of the browns in the upper Millers River yesterday. Anyone know if they float stocked it down into Athol or just dumped them in. Thats too bad about the EB of the Swift, I didnt get a chance to fish it this year. Up here in NH the stocking especially for the FFO areas can be pathetic and thats being nice. Guess things are going too well south of the border either.

Favor to ask from anyone at the Bearsden area. I fished it last night until almost dark and upon breaking off I decided to call it a night. I was got back to my car and realized that my tip section to my rod got pulled off and was laying on the ground somewhere between my car and the gorge pool...a walked back to look for it but it was getting dark and I didn't find it. I am going to go after work to look again, but if anyone happens to find it, I would appreciate it if you could put leave it against the TU kiosk.
BTW, got a few nice browns and a rainbow last night.
Thanks,
Eric

Eric,

We'll keep an eye out for that rod tip. BTW, glad to see that someone is fishing the Gorge Pool. I show everyone that I guide on that section the Gorge - a great place!!!

I went looking for the rod with no luck..oh well. I talked to Temple fork, they said send back the other 3 pieces and $25 and they would replace the missing tip section. Big thumbs up to them!
On a good note, fished my 7' 3wt tonight and managed a few nice browns though I did feel a but under gunned.

Could someone please help me to understand just where the Bearsden section is. I generally fish Orange and/or Wendell, but wanted to check out other areas of the Millers.
I fished just above and just below Pete and Henry's the past few days with bows and browns coming to net.
Thanks for your help.

Fished the Quinnie on Friday afternoon and met more fly fishers than fish.

Mike C. and I met up by chance as we headed downstream from Trout Brook pool. Best event of the day!

All kinds of bugs in the air but but I never saw a fish rise.
It took hours to scrape up one Rainbow and one Brookie on PT nymphs.

Isn't this May?
I hope they start to look up, i'm getting tired of dragging the bottom like I did all winter.

Anyone having better luck?

This year is the same as any other year over the past decades. We shouldn't be concerned about not catching early season 'bows simply because they are nothing more than a temporary fishing fix. The big picture is a season long fishery on our rivers with a species that actually SURVIVES through the Summer.

The "study" is coming along nicely. Keep the data flowing!! I see a trend developing!!

Ken,

Just curious as to why my post was deleted? There was nothing in it that was "bad"...Perhaps it was because of my mentioning of my outing on the millers today?

I had to delete a comment and deleted yours too by accident.

Ham...that was a nice coincidence....too bad we didn't meet up with more fish. They were there...just not interested in our flies.

Definately amazing how fast some streams get nailed by the catch and keep folks. I have zero issue with this, globally speaking. Folks want to keep a fish or two for dinner, that's awesome. But it drives me nuts when folks follow the trucks or do the whole, limit out, go home, come back, limit out, go home, come back routine. The comment about the EB swift is what got me to post. Love that river, grew up on it and love it.

Its been solid this year... and hopefully this higher water from this weeks rain will spread the fish out making it fish well longer.
