The Millers, the EB, And Posting Guidelines

First things first. The Lower C&R of the Millers (the important part) will be stocked this Friday, May 11, if all goes to plan. The EB of the Westfield (Chesterfield Gorge and below) will be stocked this week because of the TU Indian Hollow event starting on the 18th from what I gather. The "good fishing" (remote fishing with no crowds) starts after the TU event. Posting - I, as mentioned by enough of the regular posters, have had enough of the cowards who throw garbage under the safety of the label "Anonymous". Put your name on it if you really mean it. Better yet, take the simple step and register as a google member. It's easy. Going forward anyone who posts "Anonymous" without a name will be tossed. Posting "Anonymous" with a "name" but sending an incendiary bomb will also be tossed. This is not some politically correct website. I (and thankfully "we" - the fly fishers that follow this forum) want timely up-to-date reports on these three rivers: The Millers, The EB of the Westfield and the Swift. It has expanded to other Massachusetts rivers if the reports on the East Branch of the Swift and the Quinapoxet are any indication. This is a very good thing. It's a network of Massachusetts Fly Fishers wanting to know where the trout fishing is good. No guarantees, just some reports. This blog started in 1997 to highlight the Millers because nobody else wanted to do that. It has expanded with hundreds of fly fishers logging in each day to see some reports and to get some discussion related to our endeavor. I can only fish so many rivers so how about some reports from around this State and around New England? I have been beating the drum for the Millers for years but have never been crowded out even with the increased popularity. Mention a river, without a certain section if you like, and tell us how things are. Ken

Sounds good to me Ken - hey, we are talking fishing... it should be positive and educational!

Ken,

I have a copy of your Millers River Guide, and have found it to be very useful. Have you thought about making one for the EB Westfield? I would like to get to know that river better also.

Fished the EB yesterday with a buddy, the flows were still up but certainly fish able. We worked a ton of river. The result, 4 measly 10" tiger trout. The state claims to have stocked 3 times to date with browns, rainbows and now tigers. I am hard pressed to be convinced. Too bad, with the early spring we've had and knowing the swimmers and dog paddlers will soon be coming, it would have been nice to see them get a jump on stocking it earlier this season.

Fished the Swift at the Y pool Thursday.Had a decent day on nymphs. There did not seem to be many fish from the Rt.9 bridge up.

Better yet Ken, make registration a must just to view the blog. Good for you in taking this step, I can stay home and get nonsense, I just want to fish.

Fished the Swift Saturday and Sunday. There appear to be very few fish in the run immediately south of route 9. Found fish sporadically rising during the day from route 9 all the way up to the Y pool. Stoneflies and the occasional Hendrickson were hatching. I got all my fish on a size 14 CDC emerger in olive. A heavy Hendrickson spinner fall (never seen this on the Swift) in the evening in the cable pool area was ignored by the trout, but they took the emerger without hesitation. The stretch of broken water below the cable pool is full of fish. Fish in the Y pool were on tiny midges, but I definitely couldn't figure them out.

The state lists the Swift being stocked last week in Ware and also Palmer. I fished down in Bondsville this past Friday and I did not see many fish. I stopped by and checked out the water below the Pipe area down to Cady Lane and saw 2 rainbows in the Cady Lane pool. I think the truck with the fish went only in one direction last week.
