Good Bows, Brookies On The Move and Some Open Dates

As stated the Swift got some trout late last week and we did well with them. The thing noticed was that the Jungle was emptied out of catchable trout. Only the little 2 inch guys were around. It was easy, just two weeks ago, to work a dry through the weed beds and land enough 10 to 12 in guys in an hour. Sunday they were gone EXCEPT when we went upstream and found pebble bottomed river. Then they began to appear and in one spot we saw about 30 in the 8 to 14 inch range. They are staging upriver for the spawning run and seem to have left the lower jungle area. They look great in the net, fully dressed for the Autumn party.

Ok, I booked some open dates and rescheduled some open dates and I have a personal date that is now open. The dates in October are:

Friday 10/9
Friday 10/16
Sunday 10/25

Pick one and if you're first it's yours.

Or book in November - A great month to hit the rivers BEFORE dreaded Winter.

The word on stocking is out. Quite a crowd at the rt 9 bridge at 9am today (Tuesday) 9 cars. Only 2 cars down at the pipe, but that ballooned to six later in the morning. Thanks to an excellent outing with you two weeks ago I was successful at the gauge landing a Rainbow on a size 20 slim flashback pheasant tail. Then skipped the pipe and went upstream of the bend at the Cady Lane crossing and caught a 9" brookie and a chubby rainbow on a poor man's partridge and orange (I used mallard) size 18 soft hackle. Then one more brookie at the tail of the tree pool on an olive and pink hotspot also size 18. Lots of brookies being caught near the pipe, none very big - around 7-9inchers I'd guess. Slim seems to be in. Thanks for your excellent guidance and updates.

Ok guys - If you find a net around the Orcutt Pool on the Millers I have the owner. Email me and I will get it back to him.

Hi Ken - I had a great day on the Swift today all with an 18/20 parachute ant. Got a number of big Rainbows to take it if they were already rising. The only problem was the thousands of tiny Brookies that kept drowning my fly :) Not a bad problem to have. I have to say I have concluded my test about Rainbows eating the Brook trout fry and it's an undeniable yes from the Cable pool. I ended up sacrificing a Rapala sized trout and it was an amazing site. I flipped one in front of a pod of Rainbows and they went crazy for it and swallowed it whole. The second one almost had the same fate, but I am not recommending the practice as I felt bad for the first guy, so I yanked him out of harms way and set him free. Interestingly the small brook trout I released right in front of them got no reaction. When it was on the hook, however, they came like sharks. Anyway, again, I didn't like that I sacrificed one by way of your forum, confessing my sin. It was pretty cool to see though :)

Falsecast,

That life and death thing goes on up and down the river. That's why the browns grow big in the jungle - a zillion brook trout!
