Autumn On The EB

Autumn On The EB
Fly Fishing The Millers - With over 30 years of fly fishing this river I will claim more knowledge and fish caught than anyone. There are over 40 miles of river and I will take you to the best sections and if you want to sections that never see another angler. Don't be fooled by those who say the Millers is a Spring and Fall river. I'll show you how to have great Summer action. The "EB of the Westfield" - Wild and beautiful is the only way to describe this river. There's a lot of water here but I know where to go to catch trout. After a trip you will too!! Solitude and trout IS the EB. The Swift - 20 trout days are not uncommon on this river if you know what to do and use. I'll show the way and you catch the trout. RATES - Full Day (6 hours) = $150.00 for one, $225 for two (lunch included). Half Day (three hours) $90.00 for one, $155.00 for two. Beginners Class - 3 hours ffor $90.00, all use of rods lines, reels included.

A Swift River Update

What a difference a year makes!! Last year, on this week, I fished the upper Swift (bubbler run to above the Y Pool) and caught about 60 trout in 4 outings. My one trip this week resulted in a total strike out. I didn't see a fish in the bubbler run and saw one fish taken in the "Y". In the parking lot I talked to an old "regular" who said that he caught trout in the overflow arm of the Y Pool. The trout were circling the outside edge of the ice. One minute you'd have a hit and then have to wait a while before they circled around again. I don't like the Y Pool and certainly don't like that circling setup.

The "Pipe" has been dead according to my sources which are pretty good. I think that this cold, snowy winter has sent the trout into wintering quarters - deeper spots.

Things should get better as March turns to April. They will start stocking, of course, and holdovers will stop hiding.

I can't wait.

Ken,
I like the fly photos with short blurbs, but it would be nice to be able to click and see larger images.

Cliff,

I agree but this blog format doesn't allow for that. Only photos attached to new posts can be enlarged.

I had simlilar results. Fished a couple Saturdays ago. Got one where bubbler runs to the Y-Pool(which I don't like fishing). I got one small brown near the pipe on a huge fly for the swift, he would get off the bottom for anything else.
Just got back from Western NC from 4 days of chasing wild trout in the mountains! We got everything from brookies to wild rainbows and browns! I wish we had the water they do!

I saw that the state scedualed to stock the millers last week.... I was told by a friend who saw then on the road and the truck driver told him that they could not get into a good spot on the millers and they dumped the fish in lake mattawa instead.....hmmmm

I obtained a single little brown close to the pipe over a large fly for that swift, he would get away the bottom for something else.
