Sampling On The Swift

"I frankly don't make much of a living but I make a hell of a life" - Jack Gartside

The DFW will be sampling the Swift River from July 15 through July 17 to study the movements of recently stocked rainbows.  I know that they sampled (electroshock)  the Pipe section around mid day and it didn't harm the fishing trout because they zeroed in on a pellet hatch just a short while later.

This may be a short inconvenience but bear with it.  We could learn a lot from this.

BTW, The Swift has been great!!!

Cool! I may get over there Thursday... But mostly I'm happy to see them study the river and learn. That's a great deal!
Is it still coming over? last I checked it was 120, but not sure if that's res release only now or if there is still a bit coming over the top?

Fished the Swift Sunday for the first time since November, such a different river below route 9 with all the down trees relocated downstream and the undercut banks. About a half dozen clipped bows were ignoring everyone except Bill below the Pipe. I was disappointed to see the naked guy swimming below Cady Lane in the AM (he's got a fishing vest now when he walks out) but glad to see a range of Brookies slamming my size 18-20 olive bitty bead head midge (a size 16 olive scud worked too). Only a few rising but they were pounding the nymph on the hang at the bottom of the swing in the fast water below the tree pool. Just for fun I fished the gauge run around noon before heading home and connected with a great looking brown, again at the bottom of the swing on the hang. Air temp was 85, but the river a refreshing 57 which made for some foggy conditions first thing in the AM.

TC,

Thank you for telling me the latest disguise of the "naked man". I want him off the river".

Will,

The overflow stopped a week ago. The 120cfs is from the bubbler.

Hi Ken - I was up above rte 9 today and decided to fish terrestrials. I started with a Moth pattern as I have noticed this hot weather has brought them out for the first time. I managed a Brookie, but it didn’t seem like they were too enthusiastic for it in general. I switched to a hopper, thought it is a bit early for them too. I can’t say I’ve seen any. I got two big Bows on the hopper and couple of rejections. It’s still a bit early, but nice to see something biting the big bugs. I ended the day on seems like a waning Sulphur hatch. There was some emerger eating big fish out there. My dun got some looks and one very nice Brown. I left before dusk so can’t speak to how the hatch went late. One guess would be that there might be good activity after 8pm. I like this 120 flow!

Ken - Amen to that news - AWESOME.
Ugh on "Naked Man"... Really wish he appeared when the PD/EPOs happened to be around.

Andrew,

I like the flow too. It's better than it was.
