Pigs On The Swift

"You are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem" Eldridge Cleaver

Who are these guys? This is the second time in a month that some jokers decided to mess the Swift up. The scene of the crime is at the Pipe section where camp fires (totally illegal) were lit and everything from beer cans to tampon wrappers were just left there for someone else to pick up.  Moronic  acts like this could be what closes this place down in the future.  Will the pigs care? Of course not. They'll just find another nice spot to turn into their private pig sty.  1-800-632-8075 is the Environmental Police number and they do respond.  Put this number in your phone and if you see any of these boy scouts in action just make a call discretely.

Its probably those guys on spin rods that leave 5 rods out there with bait and sit on chairs and drink and are super loud

I think the "pigs" are local teenagers. Last year, one late afternoon when I was hiking out from fishing below the Tree Pool, there were a couple of teenage boys and girls setting up hammocks between trees and already smoking weed. I should have called it in, but did not have the number. I do, now. All of us should be on the lookout, because that's obviously the place they frequent.

Hard to believe that no one saw them! This didn't happen in an instant! Get involved and drop a dime on these folks no matter where. Put the notification numbers on your phone.

I agree with you Ken there Pigs. In the winter time I was so proud how the Swift looked like. I went by the broken dam the other day disgusting fire pits beer cans just trash everywhere. People just don't get it.

Happy Spring, Ken! I was actually out at the Swift today and didn’t see many fish?? There were 6 people at the Y pool so i assume they just put some in. I didn’t see many fish from the pipe lot all the way to the pipe. I did see a decent amount of newly hatched Brook Trout, only a centimeter or so. It was nice to get out. I am itching for some real fishing.

Regarding the Pigs, I don’t understand why people can’t at least take their shit with them if the insist on partying. I remember when I was that age we always had trash bags and would dump them at some McDonald’s or something. The kids today. :)

This has been going on for years. The local lowlifes party down there and lay waste. I for one have seen used TP and human waste on the trail to the pipe. On another note, I was at the tree pool alone and along comes a young guy dressed in what I'll describe as a clown outfit, you know gaudy shirt and shorts and a knit hat with beer can panels incorporated, I kid you not. So he's fishing a curly tail grub on a jig head and catches a nice brown, and it was in August so you have to release. He was going to keep the fish and I told him it was release season, he was up on the bank and sneered at me and squeezed the fish as hard as he could then flung it as hard as he could right on the edge of the bank where it meets the shallows and stormed off, guy was a real cretin. But you know you have to be careful, bastards will slash your tires and such. This is nothing new. Lot of people like this in the Palmer/Ware area. I don't fish there much anymore for this reason, and of course the crowds.....

Falsecast,

They didn't throw many fish into the Pipe area (4 net fulls). I's still early.

Baitslinger,

They trash it because they don't own it.

Some people don't care if they trash a place. Wasn't there a big blue plastic trash barrel there last year?

Anonymous 5:49,

They got rid of the barrels last year because the bears were getting into them. Now we have to deal with pigs!!!

I've seen this at cady before. Between the stretch of the pipe and the boat ramp there were big amounts of trash and a few fire pits. It could be some drunkies with some crummy spin gear trying to "have a good time" or some teenagers screwing around. Either way I will be looking out for it and I think everyone else should as well.

Thank you Owen!

It looks like we won't be enjoying of these big boys in MA. Too bad, they look like they would be fun :)

Falsecast,

Can't say I've ever seen one up here.

My first rite of spring fly fishing is to walk with a trash bag. Was "Pigs on the Swift" a Pink Floyd song back in the day?

I remember a day at the pipe with you opposite, Ken. Stand up strong and the idiots leave. This hurts to see... but as SunTsu said, “stand by the river long enough and you’ll see the body of your enemy floating by”
